First Look Inside Camp Ocean and Dr. Seuss Bookville on the Carnival Freedom Cruise Ship

I’m currently cruising on board the newly refurbished Carnival Freedom and yesterday I had the opportunity to check out the brand new Camp Ocean and Dr. Seuss Bookville children’s facilities.

Located adjacent to the Camp Ocean check in is Dr. Seuss Bookville. Let me tell you, this is not only a child’s “dream come true” but as an adult who grew up reading The Cat in the Hat, this is an adult’s “dream come true” as well.

Dr Seuss Bookville is filled with brightly colored seating areas and about every classic Dr. Seuss book you can imagine in several languages. This is the place you can read your child a story…INSIDE of a story.

This “storybook” setting is truly magical. Not only are there story books available for guests, but also board games.

Located just outside of Dr. Seuss Bookville is the main check in area for the “kids club” Camp Ocean (formerly Camp Carnival).

Camp Ocean is for kids 11 and under. There are three distinct areas within the camp: Sharks (ages 9-11), Sting Rays (ages 6-8) and Penguins (ages 2-5).

Sharks Room

The “SHARKS” have a posh area to hang out in. I especially loved the wave chairs.

Sting Rays Room

The “STING RAYS” room shares some similarities with the “SHARKS” room.  It has an entire wall flanked with windows to allow the sun to shine in.

Penguins Room

Perhaps my favorite room was the “PENGUINS” room. It had whimsical carpeting and an indoor igloo play area.

Another room within Camp Ocean was “Creative Cove”. This area is used for arts and crafts.

Carnival really listened to guest feedback when reimagining these spaces. Here you can find kids engrossed in video game tournaments as well as bracelet making sessions. Camp Ocean even has a family afternoon where parents and kids can make memories together in these unique spaces. Family day also includes face painting and a family scavenger hunt where guests are given cameras and asked to find things on the ship. Sounds like fun right?

Special thanks goes out to Carnival for hosting me and my family on the Carnival Freedom. I was not required to write this post and all opinions are my own.
