Calling all Disneyphiles! “Inside Out” has just been released on DVD and Blu-Ray and boy do I have something sweet for you to munch on during your at home viewing of Disney/Pixar’s latest and greatest animated feature film.
I’m sure if you spend any amount of time on Pinterest you’ve no doubt run across something called puppy chow (not intended for consumption by actual puppies) aka muddy buddies aka monkey munch. Whatever you like to call it, this rendition represents all of the emotions that Riley experiences throughout “Inside Out” and its served in the cutest little character snack cones.
Here’s what you’re going to need to get started. I was able to pick up everything I needed from my local Target store including all the ingredients as well as the book I used to make the cones and the DVD.
PRO TIP: Target “Inside Out” DVD’s include 20 minutes of exclusive bonus content and deleted scenes.
5 cups oat bites cereal
2 cups round berry cereal
1 1/3 cups powdered sugar
6 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips
3.5 ounces mini vanilla sandwich cookies
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 cup salted butter
“INSIDE OUT” PUPPY CHOW
You will want to start by making up your puppy chow base.
Place five cups of oat bites cereal into a large mixing bowl. In a separate medium size mixing bowl place your chocolate chips and butter. Microwave on high for 30 seconds. Stir. Microwave on high for an additional 20 seconds and then stir making sure that all chips are thoroughly melted. Add in your vanilla extract.
Pour your melted chocolate over your oat bites and stir. Be sure that you coat every piece of cereal so that your powdered sugar will have something to stick to.
Place your chocolate covered cereal into a gallon sized plastic bag and add in your powdered sugar. Seal the bag and then shake gingerly so as not to crumble your oat squares. Be sure that every piece of cereal is coated with sugar.
Turn your puppy chow base onto a cookie sheet. Now it’s time to add in your character memory orbs.
Once everything is good and combined you are going to let your puppy chow mixture cool.
Now we are going to move on to make our serving cones.
Find the center point of your “Inside Out” Read-Along Story Book. Loosen the two staples holding the book together and pull them out.
Use a pair of scissors to cut each page of the book out into even squares. Don’t feel bad about doing this. The book comes with a CD your kids can listen to at bedtime.
Roll each individual page into a cone and secure with a piece of tape.
