Can’t believe that I haven’t shared this with you yet! This is one of THE hidden gems at Walt Disney World and one of my favorite indulgences while I’m there.
Last month my daughter, mother and I met up with two other lady friends at the Garden View Tea Room in the lobby of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa.
This is a special treat for me since I tend to do things on the fly and the Garden View Tea Room, which opens at 2pm daily, requires an Advanced Dining Reservation. I think I may have walked up and actually gotten in once in my whole life. If you do try to walk up, put your armor on cause most of the hostesses I’ve encountered there are somewhat uppity…to put it nicely.
As the sign says…
Everything about this lounge says indulgence, from the china to the fresh flowers to the sculptures and beyond. And the views are spectacular. The rear wall of the lounge is lined with large windows overlooking the gardens near the resort’s main pool. And some of the banquette seating actually provides guests with a view of the Seven Seas Lagoon.
I’m a creature of habit and order the exact same thing every visit here…The Buckingham. ($19.50) This tea selection used to be called The Buckingham Palace and if you order it, it will appear on your receipt that way. The Buckingham is served in three distinct courses and includes five traditional tea sandwiches, scones with Devonshire Cream, an onion tart, jam tart and your choice of fresh strawberries & cream or two freshly baked pastries, served with your choice of tea.
Here’s a look at the current list of teas available to order…
My eye was immediately drawn to the Mango Oolong and that’s what I ordered. It was SO GOOD!
COURSE #1: the sammies…(L-R) Pear and Cheese, curried chicken salad, shrimp salad, egg salad and cucumber and watercress. My favorite is a tie between the pear & curried chicken. Also on the plate is the onion tart. I swapped my mother for her strawberry tart that came in course number two.
COURSE #2: Strawberry tart and a current scone with strawberry preserves and what looks to be butter is actually Devonshire cream. I LOVE course two. The strawberry tart reminds me of a sophisticated pop tart and if you’ve ever seen my post on the Boma breakfast buffet at Animal Kingdom Lodge you know how I feel about scones! #BomaComa
COURSE #3: The Pastries! These will vary from day to day. The swans are almost always offered as well as the mini eclairs. The swan this day was filled with a berry mousse and the eclair was filled with a chocolate cream. That other item was a raspberry bar. I ate one of the eclairs and had to hand the rest of the noms over to my daughter as I was stuffed.
Your other option for the third course is fresh strawberries and cream. This portion size is HUGE!
So when you are scheduling your next vacation and you are making your ADRs. Pencil in a trip to the Garden View Tea Room at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa. It’s just a short monorail ride away if you are at the Magic Kingdom and a welcome retreat from the heat and bustle of the day.
