There was a tropical wave in Anaheim for the 2013 Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend and temperatures were unseasonably HOT. That didn’t stop a group of 50ish runDisney enthusiasts from lacing up their sneakers and going for a fun run through Disneyland and Disney California Adventure Parks Friday morning. That “silly” photo above is the end of the meetup. Here’s how it began…
Runners made their way to the Disneyland Hotel around 5:30am. Once everyone was properly outfitted with their complementary runDisney tech shirts they made their way into Downtown Disney for a quick running technique tutorial from the folks over at New Balance.
You can see a video on the exact tips the runners received here:
Just as they were finishing up their “Good Form Running” clinic runners had a surprise visit from none other than the White Rabbit.
They were obviously LATE…so the group divided into two separate camps. One group was to do a straight through run and the other group was to do the run/walk/run method. And just like that…they were off through Downtown Disney.
We headed straight into Disneyland and right down the middle of Main Street. This is as close as I will get to the experience that the runDisney race leaders get. What an amazing, and naughty, feeling to be in the parks when they are completely deserted.
The run ended at the Mad T Party in DCA where runners had a light breakfast and a chance to interact with Alice and the Mad Hatter.
The biggest moment for most attendees was the reveal of the newest medals to join the runDisney hardware arsenal.
Don’t you fret. A more detailed close up of these medals coming soon…
Runners got a sneak peek at the upcoming ABC show “Once Upon a Time in Wonderland” and then listened to inspiring stories from runDisney‘s Tara Gidus and Jeff Galloway, as well as celebrity guests Ali Vincent, Joey Fatone and Sean Astin.
And of course no runDisney meet-up would be complete without a few giveaways! One lucky winner was even awarded a free future runDisney race entry! Other prizes included runDisney New Balance shoes, runDisney laptop sleeves and runDisney roller bag suitcases. Each attendee left with a big ole bag of swag at the end of the meet up.
If you’d like to attend one of these exclusive runDisney meet-ups keep your eyes on the Disney Parks Blog in the days leading up to your runDisney race. The meet-up runs are always free to attend and are truly a unique experience. For more info on the runDisney race series visit runDisney.com.
