SUB 3 HOURS!
That was the goal that repeatedly ‘ran’ through my brain during the weeks leading up to the 2013 Disney Princess Half Marathon.
“Running at Disney” and I were going to celebrate our 2 year anniversary of running Disney’s Princess Half Marathon together and Disney was celebrating it’s 5th Anniversary of the event. 7,000 princesses ran it in 2009 and this year there were to be 27,000 princesses running it. We were just two tiny sparkles in a pool of diamonds about to fill the Princess Half Marathon crown.
I had my doubts. My half marathon time has always hovered around the 3:20 – 3:30 mark and Sarah was going to try and get me through the race in under three hours. Pshaw! Was all I could think. And then…the heat advisories came. Just like they had come a month before at the 2013 Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend. PR’s (Personal Records) are not set during record heat and humidity. Imagine my relief when I heard Sarah say, “It’s gonna be too hot and humid. Let’s just run it for fun.” Whew!
What does a runDisney race look like when you just run it for fun? It’s looks a lil like this…
Bus ride to the start. No nerves when you’re chatting up runDisney consultant Jeff Galloway and his wife Barbara.
Stopping for pics on the course with the friends who pass you…cause they ARE going for a PR…
How fun does this group look? Always a pleasure to see my friends…the WDW Radio Team cheering once rounding the corner onto Main Street USA in the Magic Kingdom!
More Fun Funky Fresh Disney Friends!
Hey…it’s THE Jim Doyle from “Mulch Sweat and Shears” at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in the Magic Kingdom. The two dudes over each of our shoulders….not amused. They don’t know the definition of FUN.
Princess Power Naps are fun! This one was on the New Fantasyland Wall right before our BIG push through Cinderella Castle!
Nap time is OVA! Time to pick up the pace princess!
More friends on the course!
Games with your trash. The volunteer group who fancied up this one gets a high five from me!
Sarah doing push ups with the Toy Story Green Army Man =)
Me…push ups…PSHAW! An arm lift is all you’re getting out of me at Mile 10!
If Kathy Griffin was a Disney Princess! Eek!
Yep…stopping again in Epcot around Mile 12.5 cause we didn’t want the experience to end!
Having the best time of our lives getting one of the worst times of our lives!…and we wouldn’t have had it ANY OTHER WAY!
SUCCESS! And the only tears shed on the course were at the end when Sarah and I crossed the finish line hand in hand and then embraced to bask in the glow of what we had just accomplished. It was just one year prior that Sarah had stepped across the finish line of her very first Half Marathon…the 2012 Disney Princess Half. And here we were doing it all over again and loving every minute of it.
Ah…the sweet taste of VICTORY Half Marathon Mimosas!
and some celebricizing with a tiara wearing hobbit!
If you want to partake in your own runDisney FUN…check out runDisney.com and register for a race. You’ll be glad you did! See you on the course!
This was SOOO fun to read! I love these kinds of experiences.
That’s what runDisney races are for! Glad yall had fun. Looks like a blast!
I love that I wasn’t the only one out who had a blast with this–and loved the cup contest! Before that I was just proud when my cup landed in the garbage can. 🙂
I figure you can relate as fast as you are…just doing this one for fun =)
Can’t wait to do it again in 2014
Pretty clever way to get runners to throw most of the cups in one area. Made for a much easier clean up. I’d never seen anything like this before
glad yall had a great time! It was quite sticky and humid!
What a hysterical recap. And when I run TOT maybe I’ll stop off in Hollywood Studios to take a nap! What a great idea!
Congrats on your PR
There’s always time for a nap =)
You and Sarah so totally rock! So proud of you both! Hope I can join you both in a run sometime!
Totally! Let us know when you’ll be down again!
