Time for the Goofy’s Mystery Tour 2010 synopsis… IT WAS A BLAST! Very challenging, but super fun!

I had a hard time finding any info on the event on the internet so I’m gonna give y’all the run down.

Goofy’s Mystery Tour is an annual event put on by Cast Activities, Events and Recognition.  This year’s event was held on Friday, May 7th.  There were 250 teams of four registered for the event, which was “sold out”.  Each four-person team was required to have at least two cast members and all members had to be at least 12 years of age.  The cost was $80 per team and then the shirts were $10 each.

Disney describes Goofy’s Mystery Tour as “the zaniest, wildest, wackiest, most sinister, silly and demented Cast event ever to invade the Walt Disney World Resort and steers teams through the park in search of mind bending clues and Disney trivia to solve.”

Registration started at 7:30 pm and we were asked to proceed to the Theater of the Stars on Sunset Boulevard where we were met with minions of fellow “Goofers” dancing in the stands to the music that a Disney DJ was spinning.  The first part of the Tour took place right there in the theater as we were asked 50 Disney Trivia Questions (worth 5 points each)…all multiple choice…and all really, really hard.  We penciled our answers in on a scantron before were were given our 1st mystery clue.  Here’s video that I shot before the sun set…

So, the 2 hour countdown started and we were then allowed to open our 1st clue…but only after we had each been bungee corded together.  This began the 2nd half of Goofy’s Mystery Tour.

The second half of the Tour was comprised of 15 puzzles.  Upon solving the first puzzle, you had to find the corresponding streetmosphere characters and get a special code word to place on your “Final Mystery” Sheet.  Each correctly solved puzzle was worth 50 points to be added to your final score.

The puzzles were very long and involved.  This year the theme was Musical…thus the event’s namesake…Goofy’s Musical Mystery Tour.  So each puzzle had something to do with music.  Our first puzzle had us head over to the Great Movie Ride where we had to solve

clues which moved our team like chess pieces around the hand print squares in the concrete in front of the attraction.  Mind you, it’s now 9:30 pm and we are moshing along with other teams in the dark with only our own flashlights to guide us while connected together via 1 foot bungee cords.  After solving, we made our way over to the characters who were to give us one of our “Final Mystery” code words and our next puzzle.

One of the harder puzzles we were given was a Rocky Horror Picture Show Puzzle titled “Let’s Do the Time Warp Again”. I have never seen this movie so I was of zero help.  If teams got hung up on a puzzle they could take advantage of three assists at “Clue Central” where 10 points would be deducted and a physical task had to be performed.  Our first assist required us to chew up a mouthful of soda crackers while singing the Star Spangled Banner.

Some of the other puzzles involved crosswords and word scrambles with themes titled “Arrrgh You 23?”, “British Invasion” and “Ukuleles in the Dark”.  We ran out of time when we had solved only 7 of the 15 puzzles, however…with those 7 words we were able to  figure out the “Final Mystery” which was the song “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” from the movie Toy Story.

Just before 11:30 pm we turned in our “Final Mystery”sheets, unclipped from one another and headed back into the Theater of the Stars for the awards ceremony and final number performed by the Rocky Horror Cast Members.

Though we didn’t come close to winning this event we did have a super time.  If you decide to compete next year, be sure to bring a clip board, water, and a flashlight and remember to HAVE FUN! I want to thank Lisa for asking me to be a part of this as well as my fellow team members Misha and Mary.

Thanks for the report Amanda! How wonderful to be along on this! What did Rocky Horror have to do with it? And when you say the RH Cast Members were there, which cast members? From the original movie???

I was wondering the same thing. Rocky Horror….Disney….not so much. The theme this year was Music so I guess that's where it came from. And the Rocky Horror Cast members were not original cast. They were Disney CM's helping out with the event. =) Ever consider competing in it?

Okay… suppose maybe Rocky Horror was just a way for the normally 'girl/boy next door performers to cut loose a bit?

As for competing, I never got an invite- heck, never heard of it till you! :)
