Did you know that you can mail a letter from inside the theme parks at the Walt Disney World Resort? It’s true.  The United States Postal Service has loaned several antique mailboxes to the Disney Resort. If you look hard enough, you might just be able to spot one on your next trip to “The World”.

Disney Mailbox

These are actual working mailboxes. If you put a postcard… or that bill you forgot to pay before leaving home… into one of these mail recepticals, it will be picked up by a Walt Disney World Cast Member and filtrated into the regular USPS Mail Pick-Up at the WDW Resort.

This particular cast iron box is located on Main Street in the Magic Kingdom. The Mailbox itself was manufactured at the Bridgeport Casting Co. in Bridgeport Connecticut.  The boxes were used by the public in the early to mid 1900′s.  There is a small notice on the front of the box which reads: “This is a Turn of the Century mail Collection Box loaned by the United States Postal Service.  Mail is collected daily from this box by Walt Disney World Cast Members for entry into the United States Mails at Orlando, Florida.”

Here’s what this mailbox probably looked like in it’s original state before it was painted to fit in with the themeing on Main Street.  This just shows the lengths that Disney will go to, to make sure that it’s guests are truly transported back in time and to another world when entering the Magic of the Magic Kingdom.
