Will the runDisney New Balance Shoes Be Available at the 2014 Disney Expedition Everest Challenge Expo?

2014-Limited-Edition-New-Balance-runDisney-Collection-631x421

Still looking to pick up a pair of the 2014 runDisney New Balance Sneakers?  Are you registered for the 2014 Expedition Everest Challenge at Walt Disney World? Well, now may be your chance to snag a pair of the coveted pavement pounders.

I asked my contact at runDisney if the shoes would be available at the Expedition Everest Challenge Expo, since it’s such a small expo, and my contact told me that the shoes will be on sale there, but that New Balance’s inventory won’t be as large as it was for the 2014 Marathon Weekend and Princess Half Marathon Weekend. Also, there will not be an early sign-up process. It will be first come, first served.

On your mark…get set…GO!

A Look Inside the Private Chevrolet GM VIP Lounge Above Test Track in Epcot

test track VIP Lounge GM Epcot amanda tinney

It’s every Disney Nerd’s fantasy to be able to access the “restricted” areas of Walt Disney World.

After 5 years of blogging I’ve been able to unlock one more door to a VIP Lounge in Epcot.  Here are two of the others I have visited:

Siemens VIP Lounge at Spaceship Earth
HP VIP Lounge at Mission Space

This weekend I was able to enjoy the GM VIP Lounge at Test Track.  Access to the private lounges are reserved for employees and guests of the companies that sponsor each pavilion.  Test Track is sponsored by Chevrolet/GM so employees of these companies and their guests may access the private lounge. I’ve found most lounge hours are normal business hours with closures on the weekends. Each lounge may vary.  The lounges also allow Make-a-Wish children the opportunity to come in and rest and of course special events are sometimes held inside the lounges.

This was the case which afforded me the opportunity to access the Test Track Lounge this weekend.

Want to know where the door is?

Concept art for the reimagining…

We did not have to use this, as they were expecting our group, but if the protocol is anything like the other lounges I’ve accessed, you would ring that bell and show your employee identification to access the elevator.

Once off the elevator, you enter the main lounge area.

The window on the right looks out over the initial hill climb and break testing area of the attraction. It was so dark that I could not get a decent picture for you. There is also a fountain soda machine with free beverages available to lounge guests.  Two of the vehicle design stations were available for guests who would be riding the attraction after enjoying the lounge.

This long hall led to another exit as well as the bathroom.

Nothing too remarkable about the ladies room.

Since the theme of the private event was “Frozen” there were chilly photo opps and character meet and greets.

After exploring the main lounge area we were led back to the function which was down another corridor that faced the front of the attraction.

THE highlight of the evening, besides the booze soaked cronut, was this string ensamble playing music from Epcot‘s Tapestry of Nations Parade.  It almost made me weep.

Here’s a snipit for you…

Those floor to ceiling windows looked out over the Test Track entrance and Future World. I wish it had been day time so I could have captured better photos. The 65mph inverted portion of the ride went zooming by with ride vehicles at your toes every few seconds.

Trying to use my body as a shadow from the back light you can see Spaceship Earth as well as the Test Track entrance area.

Stay in a 3 Bedroom Suite at WorldQuest Resort During Tower of Terror 10 Miler Weekend for $127 a Night

WorldQuest Orlando Resort

The runDisney Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 10 Miler race registration opens today.  After you secure your bib, then it’s time to decide where you’re going to stay for your racecation.

I have the perfect spot.

For the past two years I’ve stayed at the elegant WorldQuest Orlando Resort for Tower of Terror Weekend. The property is beautiful and for an “off-property” resort, you just can’t beat how close it is to the gates of the Walt Disney World Resort.

We were so close we could see Disney’s Characters in Flight Balloon from our balcony.

WorldQuest Orlando Resort

WorldQuest Orlando Resort WorldQuest Orlando Resort Not only is this gated property close to Walt Disney World, it is also tucked away on a private road and surrounded by natural woods.

The resort offers two and three-bedroom suites. So bring the entire family, or get a group of your closest running buddies together.

WorldQuest Orlando Resort These suites are comparable to a Deluxe Disney Vacation Club Suite. Our three bedroom two bath unit was equipped with a full kitchen, a king bed, queen bed and two twin beds. I just checked the resort website for availability and you can get this same 3/2 suite for as little as $127 a night!  The 2/2 units are even more reasonable at $112 a night. This size unit at a DVC Resort would run you well over $1,200 a night.

WorldQuest Orlando Resort WorldQuest Orlando Resort The resort offers free breakfast every morning which will save you hundreds on your Disney Racecation.  You’re not going to get that at a Disney Resort.

WorldQuest Orlando Resort WorldQuest Orlando Resort I felt very safe knowing that there was a guarded gate behind which we were sleeping every night and the resort staff are extremely friendly.

To register for the runDisney Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 10 Miler visit runDisney.com

WorldQuest Orlando Resort is located at 8849 WorldQuest Blvd., Orlando, FL 32821.  If you’re ready to book your vacation please visit WorldQuestOrlando.com or call 877-987-8378.

Special thanks to WorldQuest Resort for hosting my stay. All opinions are my own.

runDisney May Be Hosting a Post Race Cruise After the 2015 Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend

Disney Castaway Cay 5K Bib

Apparently runDisney is entertaining the idea of hosting a post-race Disney Cruise out of Port Canaveral following the 2015 Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend. At least we now know the reasoning behind moving the Tinkerbell Half Marathon Weekend from January to May in 2015.

Can you imagine how large the Castaway Cay 5k group would be for this cruise?!

I just completed my 2014 Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend survey and this was one of the questions asked:

We are considering hosting a special post-race cruise aboard Disney Cruise Line® for runners and their families next year. Guests can rest, relax, and recover while enjoying stops in Bahamian or Caribbean ports of call, including Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island. Special post-marathon programs and events will be included onboard.

If this cruise was offered, how interested would you be in sailing?

  • Definitely would be interested
  • Probably would be interested
  • May or may not be interested
  • Probably would not be interested
  • Definitely would not be interested

The follow up question asked why I would like to take a post-race Disney Cruise… “Duh! Run ALL the miles and then eat ALL the cruise food!”  And then the final question was…”Which cruise would I like to take…a 7 Night Caribbean or a 4 Night Bahamas?”

If you were asked about a post-race Disney Cruise what would your answer have been?
