Disney BLOC28 Street Artists Provide a New Take on Mickey Mouse

Have you heard of Disney’s BLOC28? If you haven’t, don’t worry…neither had I. I overheard some chatter on Twitter about it and decided to check it out for myself.
BLOC28 is a fusion of non-traditional artists and the Disney brand. The company wanted to see how these street artists, with a passion for Disney, would interpret “The Mouse”.
Several artists were commissioned to do pieces that have been showcased over the past few years. Their works are very contemporary…and some remind me of the Julius/Mickey in Runaway Brain…so if you are a purist you should look away!
In addition to Vinyls and Guitars, wearable BLOC28 artwork has been created as well. The masses can purchase Shirts, Caps and Jewelry depicting these contemporary Mickeys. So far, Disney has released a Series 1 and 2. All the Series 1 pieces have since sold out. Series 2 is available at select specialty stores.

Vintage Disney EPCOT Center Video
As you’ve probably guessed by now…I love Epcot! It is my favorite park at the Walt Disney World Resort. I am also somewhat of a purist and dearly miss Disney’s extinct attractions. I have fond memories of visiting Epcot as a child and even in my earlier years, preferred it over the Magic Kingdom.
My friend Armand shared this fantastic video with me the other day…”EPCOT Center: A Souvenir Program”. It’s a retro look at the theme park and will give you a glimpse of the magic that existed back in the 80′s. Several of the extinct attractions are featured: World of Motion, Communicore (with SMRT-1 Robot), the Original Journey into Imagination with Figment and the Future Playground, a fantastic view of SpaceShip Earth without the Monolith Graveyard that currently blocks your view now, Kitchen Kabaret …etc. It’s just a fantastic piece…and I loved to see the outfits everyone was rockin’ back then. I hope you enjoy reminiscing as much as I did…
