What Keeps Me Coming Back to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party Year After Year

Magic Kingdom Mickeys not so scary halloween party entrance

A Walt Disney World Annual Pass isn’t exactly what I’d call cheap. I paid $410.03 for my annual pass and that was the Florida Resident Renewal Rate.  The Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party (MNSSHP) at the Magic Kingdom is a separately ticketed event that costs $50 bucks and some change.  Last year I attended 3 MNSSHPs! People ask me if I’m nuts and why would I pay the extra $50 some odd dollars to go to a park that I can get into for free with my annual pass. Usually folks who ask me that question are folks who have never experienced the magic that ‘IS’ Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party.

Here are some of the personal highlights for me…

Being welcomed to the party over the magic Kingdom PA System by my “Ghost Host”

The Haunted Mansion gravedigger portion of the “Boo to You” Halloween parade probably tops the list…

Of course the headless horseman riding down Main Street USA to open up the parade is another highlight you can only experience at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party

Hallowishes Perimeter fireworks! What the heck are perimeter fireworks? Well they are like Wishes Fireworks but on roids! Instead of just having the fireworks launched at and behind Cinderella Castle, you also have 180 degree fireworks going off all around you! Not to mention an epic Hallowishes soundtrack to accompany them!

Enough candy to rot all of Bruce’s teeth out of his sharkey little head! Or to keep your wee ones turbo charged on a sugar high so they can partake until midnight when the party ends and then crash and burn back at your hotel room.

When else can you look forward to standing in the queue line for Splash Mountain?

Speaking of queue lines…we flew thru ALL of them! Seriously..ALL OF THEM! There was zero wait for any of the attractions! Splash, Space, Big Thunder, Pirates, even Peter Pan had no wait! Most of the ride vehicles looked like this when we went to board….and that’s not JUST because this is ‘its a small world” boat. Legit all the rides were a walk on. I swear!

Learn the “Calling All the Monsters” Line Dance and Join in at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party

Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party is a one-of-a-kind Halloween party held in Magic Kingdom theme park at Walt Disney World Resort on select nights in September and October.

Main Street USA comes to life during Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party. To add to the excitement of the night this year, a new pre-parade, Not So Scary Street Jam! takes to the streets before Mickey’s Boo-To-You Halloween Parade. This interactive experience invites guests to come into the street and perform a fun, new line dance to the Disney Channel song, Calling All the Monsters by China Anne McClain.

During Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, guests of all ages are encouraged to dress up in their favorite costumes and trick-or-treat in a neighborhood with Disney Characters in their Halloween best. New Parade Float Added to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party 2010

…or so I thought…

Last night I was at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party…for the 3rd time in a month. (Luxury of living so close to The Magic) and I saw something that I had NEVER seen before. A new parade float!

Haunted Mansion Tombstone Parade Float

I was doing the usual…status updating my Twitter and Facebook accounts while watching the parade out of the corner of my eye…when…all of a sudden…  It was like I had woken up in a fog from a not-so-scary dream. I immediately tweeted out a picture of the float and got a response right away from my girlfriend Debbie…(said with my best Southern drawl) “Sister…that float is NOT new…been in the parade for years…got pics of it to prove….” I thought…she’s gone batty! There’s no way in heck that this float has been in the parade before. Besides…the Haunted Mansion is going through an enhancement (rumored to be an interactive queue) and the cemetery with Madame Leota right before you enter the doors to the mansion has been completely boarded up…so it makes perfect sense that the headstones had been moved from their plot on the mansion grounds to the new parade float.

I then went back to review my Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party “Boo to You” Parade video from last year to see if I had just had a “senior moment”. Nope…no Haunted Mansion tombstone float there either.  And then I got the photo link from Debbie…

Well…turns out that she was right. This float HAS made an appearance before. Her pic was taken in September of 2009 and low and behold, its the same tombstone float. I wonder , why this float isn’t used in every Boo to You parade? I have been to MNSSHP multiple times each year for the last six years or so and not once have I seen this float.

Another NEW and intereting discovery was a gigantic spider that had been magically teleprojected from the Astro Orbiter onto Space Mountain!

Space mountain Halloween Spider(sorry picture taken with my iPhone at night while in a moving TTA vehicle)

…and then…when we were leaving the park and walking from Tomorrowland to Main Street USA via the Tomorrowland Terrace Noodle Station I noticed video game stations! wha???? It was like a bizarre TRON flashbak! Nintendo wii and DS game stations randomly set up at the edge of the patio behind the tables and chairs. There was a cast member there breaking down the stations who told me that they were only put out for the Halloween Party.  Um…OK…

Well, that’s all the news that’s fit to print from this Halloween Party. Would love to know if there was anything weird, new, or off-the-wall at YOUR MNSSHP. Drop me a comment below.
