In Honor of the Boston Marathon Spectators

Spectators. It’s what MAKES a marathon a marathon. Friends, family, loved ones, fellow runners, volunteers.  On the sidelines, in the stands, waiting with hugs at the finish line.

I am a runner. As one, my heart goes out to the thousands of athletes who were unable to complete their journey yesterday. I’m sure there are finishers who may be wrestling with guilt today…”why was I able to finish when others were not?”  And to the runners whose family members were injured or even killed yesterday my heart is especially heavy for you.  It was the spectators who paid the ultimate price yesterday in Boston. Moms, dads, husbands, wives, brothers, sisters…children…strangers.

there are no words…

Today’s post is dedicated to you…the spectators. The ones who watch as we selfishly take hours for ourselves in training. The ones who get up at ungodly hours of the morning to stand in sometimes horrible conditions on the side of the road for hours. The one’s who take time to create signs. Who clap till their hands are raw. Who shout out words of encouragement till they lose their voices.  I honor you today!

I am a runner. Today I stand with Boston. I stand with the spectators. We will never forget.

Disney Favor for My Friend Chef Robert Irvine

robert irvine chandler make a wish disneyI know Chef Robert Irvine plays a hard nosed dictator on his Food Network Show “Restaurant Impossible” where he whips restaurants and their owners into shape. However…Robert is just a muscle bound teddy bear if you ask me. He’s got a very special place in his heart for veterans and children and is generous of both time and spirit.

I recently found out that Robert played a huge part in sending 6-year-old Chandler to Walt Disney World Resort via the Make-a-Wish Foundation.  You can see that touching moment here:

Chandler wants to make wishes come true for other kids like her. Robert asked her how many wishes she’d like to grant, and her answer was “500”!

Chef Irvine wants to help Chandler pay it forward by raising $25,000 on her behalf for future Wish Kids.  As of this publication date, Robert is at $2,610.  There’s still a long way to go to get all 500 wishes granted.  Please help by contributing any amount you can. Every dollar you donate can help Make-A-Wish kids renew their courage and find a turning point in their lives.

Thank you for your generous support!
