2013 Disney Princess Half Marathon ReCap – What it Looks Like When You Just Run for Fun

disney princess half marathon running at disney amanda tinneySUB 3 HOURS!

That was the goal that repeatedly ‘ran’ through my brain during the weeks leading up to the 2013 Disney Princess Half Marathon.

Running at Disney” and I were going to celebrate our 2 year anniversary of running Disney’s Princess Half Marathon together and Disney was celebrating it’s 5th Anniversary of the event. 7,000 princesses ran it in 2009 and this year there were to be 27,000 princesses running it.  We were just two tiny sparkles in a pool of diamonds about to fill the Princess Half Marathon crown.

I had my doubts. My half marathon time has always hovered around the 3:20 – 3:30 mark and Sarah was going to try and get me through the race in under three hours. Pshaw! Was all I could think.  And then…the heat advisories came. Just like they had come a month before at the 2013 Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend. PR’s (Personal Records) are not set during record heat and humidity. Imagine my relief when I heard Sarah say, “It’s gonna be too hot and humid. Let’s just run it for fun.”  Whew!

What does a runDisney race look like when you just run it for fun? It’s looks a lil like this…

Bus ride to the start. No nerves when you’re chatting up runDisney consultant Jeff Galloway and  his wife Barbara.

Having the best time of our lives getting one of the worst times of our lives!…and we wouldn’t have had it ANY OTHER WAY!

SUCCESS! And the only tears shed on the course were at the end when Sarah and I crossed the finish line hand in hand and then embraced to bask in the glow of what we had just accomplished. It was just one year prior that Sarah had stepped across the finish line of her very first Half Marathon…the 2012 Disney Princess Half. And here we were doing it all over again and loving every minute of it.

Disney Helps Kids Make a Difference with the “Disney Friends for Change Games” Online Destination

Disney Friends for Change GamesTo support the “Disney Friends for Change Games” on Disney Channel and Disney XD, Disney has launched an online destination at Disney.com/ProjectGreen, where kids and families can take part in the Games from home and help the planet — by making personal pledges of their own, playing online versions of the Games, and making art that matters! When kids play online versions of the Games at Disney.com/ProjectGreen, they can donate the points they earn to one of the four charities involved. At the end of the Games, the charity with the most points given by the Disney online community will receive $100K.

In addition to playing online games for charity, kids can view exclusive video content and participate in a number of fun online activities. Kids can create online art on the Friends for Change Group Wall at Disney.com/Create, where they can see the transformative power of friends everywhere pitching in to make a difference. The Disney.com/ProjectGreen site will also feature exclusive videos from the “Disney Friends for Change Games,” including a special wrap-up show hosted by Tiffany Thornton and Jason Earles. Kids can also download the official 2011 Friends for Change anthem “We Can Change the World” featuring Bridgit Mendler on Disney.com/Project Green.

Over 30 Disney Channel and Disney XD stars from around the globe will compete in “Disney Friends for Change Games.” Four teams will play on behalf of a global charity — Fauna and Flora International, World Wildlife Fund, Ocean Conservancy and UNICEF. For five weeks beginning Friday, June 24, Disney Channel will present “Disney Friends for Change Games” in interstitials during its Friday, Saturday and Sunday primetime original series programming, and Disney XD will present a special episode from the games Monday nights beginning June 27 (9:30 p.m., ET/PT). The Games will culminate with a special half-hour episode Sunday, July 31 on Disney Channel.

First Listen – Video: Zooey Dechanel sings for Upcoming Winnie the Pooh Movie

Photo: Patrick Wymore ©Disney Enterprises, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

He’s a bear of very little brain. She’s half of the acclaimed band She & Him. This year, they come together on the big screen in “Winnie the Pooh,” which hits theaters in select international markets in Spring 2011, and in the U.S. on July 15, 2011. Actress/Musician/Singer/Songwriter Zooey Deschanel (“Almost Famous” “(500) Days of Summer”) joins Winnie the Pooh and all of his friends in the Hundred Acre Wood, performing three songs for the film, including her own take on the classic “Winnie the Pooh” theme song, “A Very Important Thing to Do” and the original end-credit song “So Long,” which was written by Deschanel and performed with She & Him bandmate M. Ward.

Deschanel’s songs, plus the Sherman Brothers classic and a host of original songs by Robert Lopez and wife Kristen Anderson-Lopez (“The Wonder Pets”), as well as original score from composer Henry Jackman (“The Da Vinci Code,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest”), will be included on the “Winnie the Pooh” soundtrack.

Look for Winnie the Pooh to hit theaters this spring!
