Walt Disney Pictures has another iron in the fire with “Saving Mr. Banks”, a behind-the-scenes look at how the popular Disney film “Mary Poppins” came to be.
Casting as of this time has Tom Hanks playing the role of Walt Disney, while Emma Thompson will star as P.L. Travers (Mary Poppins author) and Collin Farrell playing the author’s alcoholic father who dies when the author is only 7 years of age.
MovieWeb reports…”The story centers on Mary Poppins author P.L. Travers, and shifts between her childhood days in early 1900s Queensland, and her experiences in the 1960s, negotiating with Walt Disney for a big-screen adaptation of her books.”
John Lee Hancock is directing from a script by Kelly Marcel. The film will have a 2014 release date.
