Did you know that the California Grill at Disney’s Contemporary Resort has a private Dining Room? Well, they actually have two of them. The Sonoma Room overlooking Bay Lake and the Napa Room overlooking the Magic Kingdom. I got a chance to have lunch in the Napa Room last week while the Disney Execs gave us the run down on Summer Nightastic. What a treat! I totally felt like I was breaking the law cause we were dining at California Grill during lunch hours and the restaurant is only open for dinner…then on top of that…the fire alarm was accidentally set off and we had to evacuate and go out onto the catwalks to enjoy the view…Double SCORE! Of course I took lots of pictures to share with you.
Wondering where the Napa Room is located? When you step off the elevator at the California Grill, instead of taking a right and heading towards the hostess stand, you make a left. The Napa Room is tucked up in the corner past the restrooms there. I braved the “glass-cutting” shrill of the fire alarm so I could get some shots of the room while everyone was outside.
Now…how about some unparalleled views of the Walt Disney World property from 150 some odd feet up in the air?…
Here’s a shot of the green roof on the Wilderness Lodge. In the background you can see Disney’s Swan and Dolphin Resorts and just to the right of them you can make out the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
I am so glad that California Grill was the location selected to feed us hungry Media Folk and that there was a set menu. I love the Sushi there so much that I would have probably never tried anything else as I am such a creature of habit and the sushi is so phenomenal there…however, here’s what was served…
We started with a Sonoma Goat Cheese Ravioli with Onions and Shitake Mushrooms. This dish was amazing! It was one large ravioli. The cheese inside was pretty salty combined with the sauce but I love a salty dish. One of the Public Relations hosts told me that the ravioli is what he orders as his entree when he dines at The California Grill.
The main course was steak and baked chicken over french fries and broccolini topped with chimichurri and herbed butter. The beef was cooked medium rare and was super tender. The chicken was tender and juicy and seasoned to perfection. I knew that dessert would be on its way shortly so I didn’t touch my fries, broccolini or chimichurri. Eek! Forgot to mention that I loaded up on the bread service…only cause of the salted butter that was served with it. Salted Butter from The Contemporary is THE BEST! (I would make a great prisoner…I love me some bread)
Alright…anyone who knows me knows my mantra “Cheese is not a dessert” so I was praying that the servers weren’t going to walk out with a big fat slice of that. I am also not a pudding eater…I just don’t like the texture of something that feels like it has already been digested for me. *bleck* So when our dessert course was finally revealed I was a tad bit hesitant to eat it. Let me tell you…it was GREAT!
This was Butterscotch Creme Brulee with Biscotti. I’m a texture gal so I really appreciated the sugar crust on top of this dessert. I didn’t finish the biscotti but there wasn’t a lick of creme brulee left in this dish when I was done.
So that’s my Summer Nightastic Media Day at the California Grill Napa Room. I hope you enjoyed the view. Have you dined at the California Grill? What was your favorite dish?
