Marble has been used as a medium to create fine art work for the past 2,000 years. Michelangelo sculpted it into some of the most coveted pieces during the Renaissance . And it is no surprise that the artisans at Disney have decided to use it to create the most unique floor sculptures at one of the most elegant resorts on Walt Disney World Property.
The Grand Floridian’s lobby walkways have been going through some heavy renovation lately. The first floor has received some new installments where there was one carpet. This flooring is truly magical. Cinderella and her Prince greet you as you step off of the main elevator. As you round the corner and pass by the Grand Floridian Garden View tea Room you can spot Chip and Mrs. Potts…
The largest piece was being installed on the second floor entryway to the Monorail platform. There was a barrier up that day that was low enough for me to snap a few photos of the installers at work. It was amazing to watch them put the pieces of the puzzle together. This project mirrors the work that was recently installed in the first floor entryway. The foreman had a key to guide the placement of the intricate pieces.
Here’s a peek at the work in progress…

I tip my hat to the imagineers who engineered such a beautiful design and to the men who have talent enough to execute it.
Until Next Time,

P.S. I was lucky enough to go to the Grand Floridian on a day that the Holiday Gingerbread House was being constructed and put together a video for you. Check it out HERE!
