Disney Every Day Newsletter Subscribers Raise $190 to Rescue Animals
The Story of the Little Cat That Could
This little guy is named Buddy. Buddy was abandoned by his Mother in my “outdoor” wash house on Halloween Night six years ago. He was very tiny at the time. So small…that only one of his eyes was even open yet. It was a tedious task but I had to bottle feed him several times a day, stimulate him to go pee and poo (they can’t do it on their own), and get up throughout the night with him (like any other baby). His first stool was bloody (probably why his Mother had abandoned him) and everyone thought that there was no way that I could keep him alive.
Well…this is Buddy today!…
A Happy and Healthy cat!…my constant companion and my BEST FRIEND! A daily overflowing source of fun, unconditional love, and devotion.
I am one of the biggest animal lovers you will ever meet!
Which brings me to the purpose of this post. You may or may not know that there are thousands of animals like Buddy that are euthanized every day in this country. Many shelters will not even give a healthy, loving animal more than 48 hours to try and get adopted out.
And with the economy in the toilet, some families have had to turn their family members (Pets) over to such shelters or end up abandoning them. On the other side of the coin there are “no kill” shelters out there. These shelters take in animals and will not euthanize them. Instead, the animals are kept until they are adopted out, at which time…another animal is taken in, sometimes the owners of “no kill” shelters will go to the shelters that do euthanize and will rescue a pet and take them back to the “no kill” shelter until adopted out or placed in a foster home, making more room for another animal.
Introducing Pet Rescue by Judy
We have one such shelter here in Central Florida. It is run by a ‘miracle worker’ Judy. Here’s her story…
Once upon a time…in 1986…Judy and her husband Tim volunteered to work at a local animal adoption event. Tim worked diligently all day to get an older English Sheep dog adopted. Sadly…at the end of the day, that Sheepdog still sat there unloved and alone. When Judy mentioned that she would like to adopt a doberman that had caught her eye that day, Tim said ‘no’ and that they would be taking the Sheep Dog. He knew that because it was older, it would soon be euthanized. That dog lived another 8 years and Judy’s involvement in animal rescue grew into passion and led to her organization “Pet Rescues by Judy”
Here’s one of Judy’s Success Stories!
(After wiping the tears from my face and collecting myself) Here’s where I make my shameless pitch for help. I would like nothing more than to make a contribution to help Judy continue what she is doing. As of this posting, My DisneyEveryDay Newsletter subscribers have raised $190. Judy’s animal transportation van was recently stolen and I am assuming that a monetary contribution could be better used instead of supplies. I would like her to be able to make the call on that one.
So…If you feel it in your heart…I ask you to make a contribution to help pets in need. If you would… I would be extremely grateful!
A special thanks goes out to those who have so generously given thus far:
- Claudia Mazar
- Jessica Kirby
- Susan Fabiano
